Donate Life NW: Go Recycle Yourself

Project

Instead of individual thesis projects, Portland State University has an entire class team up with charities in the area for a full trimester. I chose to work with Donate Life NW for my term, learning about organ donation and the charity’s goals. Donate Life NW was heavily focused on dispelling rumors about organ donation and driving up the number of people signed up to donate. At the end of the term, small groups are assigned a representative from the charity to act as a client and collaborate on a deliverable for them.

The poster’s vibrant colors will instantly catch your eye when you walk into the room. The anatomical figures fit into the major presentations they do for science or health classes, even a doctor’s office. The bright figures and florals they had helped ease the mood of a topic many people aren’t familiar with or comfortable talking about. We accomplished the client’s first goal by drawing people into the subject from a place of learning and wonder rather than fear. The second goal was to raise donor rates. Using their campaign Go Recycle Yourself we made a call to action urging the reader to help today. This project really highlights my ability to work within a company’s set branding and assets to make something that works effectively to reach its goals.

My team was assigned posters geared towards classrooms and waiting rooms. While looking through their website I found they already had incredible assets of anatomical figures and organic forms. Instead of recreating from scratch, I had our advisor from the charity send over what they had to keep it true to their brand.
