Shadow Lands and Mirror Worlds: An exploration in photo manipulation

Project

For this project, I was tasked with creating three images that had multiple forms of digital manipulation on them. The prompt was rather simple so I wanted to expand and create something bigger. With photo manipulation at the forefront of the project, and knowing the effect this has had on our generation as a whole, I created Shadow Lands & Mirror Worlds. This Project is a discussion of the virtual world as an alternate realm. The internet has become a place where people take on different personalities because they are able to hide behind their screens. Like Shadow Lands or Mirror Worlds of fiction, the worst things lurk there. The faces are hidden to make the viewer contemplate identity within the context of the internet age. For each image, I focused on scenes with harsh shadows giving the effect of a backlit screen. To enhance the effect on some of the images I split the color channels and gave them vibrant-artificial color. Finally, I added a touch of animation that plays into the video gaming trope and adds a touch of horror with its glitching effects.
